I. Intro

This section of the website is intended for those of you who have never before attended a LAN party. This page contains a list of important information that you may not know, but will be expected to know. We all have to start somewhere, right?

II. What is a LAN party?

A LAN Party is a gathering in which a number of people get together, link their computers to a network, and play games with each other on the same server. First-person-shooter (FPS) games are the type most commonly played. Check out our Games page to see the games that we will be playing and what we have played in the past events.

III. What can I expect?

You can expect nonstop gaming and lots of free food, drinks, and prizes! Most importantly, this will be a chance to have fun and meet new people!

IV. Common rules

1. Bring your own computer and equipment! WVU Tech will not be providing any "loaner" computers. Check the FAQ page to make sure you have everything.

2. How do I obtain the software (games)? If you do not own the games, it is recommended that you buy the games. In most cases, our participants only own one of the major games. You do not have to own all of the games being played. However, if you cannot run or buy the games, do not let that discourage you from attending. Game consoles will be available for everyone to play. For more information, e-mail us.

3. Virus protection: It is HIGHLY recommended that you obtain a virus protection program before the LAN party to prevent on-site complications.

AVG is a free antivirus program. This software is distributed by GriSoft, and can be acquired from their website, free of charge. Their website is located at:

It is also VERY important that you read the Rules page. If you consider yourself a noob, you should also read the FAQ page.
